Dover Downs Hotel & Casino
Dover, Delaware

The Dover Downs Hotel & Casino complex consists of a hotel resort & conference center, casino, grand stands, stable and race track in Dover, Delaware.  Like most businesses, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino was concerned with the rising cost of energy.  The solution to their concern was to enter into an energy performance contract with Trane.  The original project was $2.8 million with a payback of 2.9 years.

Project Objective:
• reduce energy consumption
• reduce operational costs
• guarantee a specified minimum level of energy savings
• furnish specified maintenance

Energy Conservation Measures Installed:
• lighting retrofit - over 12,000 fixtures
• filtration and control upgrade - all roolftop units
• reduced outside air
• retrofitted building automation system
• cooling tower retrofit
• other considerations

Project Results:
The project realized both energy and operations savings.  Delivered energy savings and demand reduction: 
• 5,887,343kWh
• 16,394 kW
• 308,088 ccf

The total energy savings realized by Dover Downs Hotel & Casino from the Trane performance contract was $1,078,679, which significantly exceeded the projected savings of $668,000 per year.
